Dash raises funding

Ghana-based payments app provider Dash has secured $32.8m in a seed funding round headed by Insight Venture Partners to build connected wallets for Africans.

The round was led by Insight Ventures with participation from Global Founders Capital, ASK Capital, 4DX Ventures and Zinal Growth Partners. Individual investors included Pine Labs CEO Amrish Rau, Jitendra Gupta of Jupiter Money and the founders of Moss, executives from ProcessOut and the founders of PennyLane.

Dash offers an accessible, modern and unified alternative payment network for African consumers. It lets the users send, spend and receive money regardless of currency. The user can pay for goods and services, save and invest all through the app. The firm is currently operating in Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria.

The funding will help Dash expand to new markets such as Tanzania and South Africa, get the licenses needed to operate there, build out its team, invest in technology and launch new features.
